Thomas founded Heatherwick Studio in 1994, defying conventional design disciplines and bringing the practices of design, architecture and urban planning together in one studio. Over the past two decades, Heatherwick’s prolific and varied work has become characterised by its inventiveness, ingenuity and originality.

Based in London, Heatherwick Studio is made up of a team of 180 highly-skilled designers, architects, and makers, with Heatherwick leading the design of all projects. Heatherwick applies artistic thinking to each project’s individual needs, resulting in some of the world’s most celebrated designs.

The studio recently completed the Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town, which is set to become the world's most important exhibition space for African art, and the Bund Finance Centre in Shanghai, in collaboration with Foster + Partners. Heatherwick Studio is currently working on projects valued at over £2 billion and spread over four continents.

In 2004, Heatherwick became the youngest Royal Designer for Industry. He has also been appointed a Royal Academician and Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
